This one year course, at level 3 of the National Qualifications
Framework (NQF), will equip students with knowledge, experience
and skills to enable them to join in the fight against the widespread
problem of HIV/AIDS infection.
It is designed for students wishing to further their understanding of
the prevalence and impact of HIV/AIDS, and it aims to provide them
with communicative and development skills which will assist them
in imparting their knowledge within group settings. The course
is suitable for people either from the community or professional
backgrounds.
Emphasis will be placed on active and student-centered learning,
thus giving students the confidence and abilities to continue their
learning journey after the completion of the course.
The first 4 modules will provide students with the knowledge needed
about the serious and widespread problem of HIV/AIDS. Whilst the
last module: ‘Health Promotion and Presentation Skills’ will enable
students to develop, and practice the skills necessary to make an
effective impact in the fight against the spread of HIV/AIDS infection.
Students will develop their understanding of how computers can be
used in researching and presenting information.

Entry Requirements
All students intending to study for a Diploma in HIV/AIDS and the
Community at SCC will need to be able to demonstrate that they have
prior learning experience to a minimum of NQF level 2 (GCSE’s or
equivalent).
Students will be re-assessed upon arrival at the College and taking
into account previously gained recognised qualifications, will be
advised as to whether they are likely to be able to complete this
course in one year. Some students may be more suitably placed on the
Certificate in Health and Social Care Course ( level 3) prior to studying
this subject.
Progression
Progression opportunities following this course will depend on the
level of any additional qualifications held by the student. Successful
students are encouraged either to continue their studies at a relevant
higher education institution/ University or to apply their knowledge
and skills to effecting change in a community environment.
South Chelsea College is developing a progression route for new
and existing students through a Higher Diploma in Understanding,
Control and Prevention of Infectious Disease at level 4 of the
National Qualifications Framework (NQF). Students will be expected
to demonstrate evidence of having achieved a relevant level 3
qualification before being admitted to the Higher Diploma Course.
