English
as a Foreign Language at South Chelsea College and School of English

See London and Learn to talk about it!
South Chelsea College and School of English offers high-quality,
affordable English Classes in a lively and trendy South London setting.
We welcome both part-time and full-time students and our central
location enables teachers to introduce students to many of the
attractions of London within the course of their studies. In addition to
classes during the academic year, the English Language Department
runs an exciting summer programme, where language practice is
combined with language learning activities around London. Students
who require a visa to study in the UK must attend classes for a minimum
of 15 hours a week and to study this subject they must apply from a
country where English is not the designated first language.

English classes are available at all levels from Lower Intermediate to
Advanced and Proficiency. The emphasis is on encouraging students
to speak fluently as well as enabling them to achieve good levels of
comprehension, writing and grammar.
Courses are devised on a modular basis so that part-time students
can choose to study the particular language skills that they require,
whereas full-time students (studying 15 hours per week) build up a
comprehensive package covering all areas of language development.
This flexibility is particularly valuable for students who already have
some grasp of the English Language, but need help with specific
skills, for example, pronunciation. Students may choose the length of
their course from 1 month to 1 Academic Year with shorter summer
programmes available in June, July and August.
English as a Foreign Language (EFL) courses prepare students for
all levels of the University of Cambridge ESOL examinations. South
Chelsea College is accredited by the Accreditation Body for Language Services, as well as
belonging to the Association of British Language Schools (ABLS).
The College is registered on the UK Department for Education and
Skills’ Register of Education and Training Providers which is due to be
replaced in April 2009 by a new Sponsorship Register.
A variety of teaching techniques are used - students will work in pairs,
in small groups and on a whole-class basis. The average class size is
10-15 pupils and we are delighted to have students from a wide range
of different countries.
The College is modern and well equipped, and where appropriate
a range of language learning software is available in our extensive
Computer Department.
The English as a Foreign Language Department at SCC is small enough
to ensure care for the individual student but large enough to attract
qualified and experienced teaching staff. Students are tested on arrival
at the College to ensure they are placed in the most suitable class.
Our experienced staff can arrange specialist classes for groups where
requested, please contact the College to discuss your requirements.
Situated in one of South London’s most diverse and cosmopolitan
areas, with a lively entertainment scene, excellent sports facilities
nearby, and a colourful street market, the College is directly opposite
an underground station (Victoria Line) and only ten minutes away by
tube from the West End (Oxford Circus).
